Walk for Dog Guides - sent back to planning stage
The Magrath Lions Club approved a proposal to hold a Lions Foundation of
Canada Dog Guides Walk for Dog Guides in Magrath, Alberta. This national
annual event began 15 years ago in communities across Canada. We had hoped to
gear up for 2001 as our first year of participation in this event. All funds
raised were to benefit the Dog Guides Programs: i.e. training of Canine Vision,
Hearing Ear, and Special Skills dogs. Due to scheduling conflicts we have bumped
this event to a later date. See national website at www.dogguides.com.
Magrath Lions Club replaces Welcome to Alberta sign at border
Posted: 20010925 (5:6)
Saturday Sep 29, 2001 the Magrath Lions Club installed the refurbished 4' x 8'
welcome sign at the Del Bonita border crossing. The original sign gave in to our
Southern Alberta wind and weather after years of use. The new replacement sign
is hoped to be as long lived. Visitors from the US will be welcomed to Alberta
and to the Town of Magrath by the new
sign .. watch for it a few hundred yards just inside of Canada on Hwy 62
heading north from the border crossing.
2001 Town of Magrath Celebrations
Plans were successfully implemented for the 2001 Lions Pancake Breakfast and
annual Lions Steer Raffle. For the second year in a row, the Steer Raffle winner
turned around and donated the prize winnings back to the club. Thanks! The club
voted to support the Magrath Volunteer Fire Department this year in their
request for funds toward the purchase a hand-held multi-gas detector (LEL,
O2, CO1, H2S). This equipment will
permit fire fighters to detect and prepare for dangerous situations in the field
such as presence of explosive gases, oxygen depletion, excessive carbon monoxide
levels.
