  • Lions Park Upgrade: In 2002-2003 we will start fundraising for the replacement of the aging wooden play structures in the Lions Park. We will start by inviting community leaders and citizen volunteers to collaborate with us in the preparation, design, and installation of factory-engineered and tested playground components [ More Info | Volunteer Here ].
     
  • Lions Youth Exchange Program: With our close proximity to the Waterton Leadership Camp in Waterton, AB (75 miles west), we are in an ideal position to provide hosting families for incoming youth exchange students ages 15-21 from other Lions. You do not have to be a club member to volunteer to host a student.  [ More Info | Volunteer Here ].
     
  • Magrath Skateboarding Park: 2002 steer raffle proceeds in the amount of $1000 have been set aside for Rob Gough who is leading the development of a town skateboard park.
     
  • Fire Dept/Ambulance: 2001 steer raffle proceeds in the amount of $700 donated toward the purchase of portable emergency dangerous gas detection equipment in  2001. Contributed toward the purchase of 'Jaws of Life' for the local volunteer fire department and ambulance association.
     
  • D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education): $500 donated to the RCMP Raymond/Magrath Detachment in support of the implementation of the new D.A.R.E. program in our school (see www.dare.com). D.A.R.E. will be taught to the Grade 6 students at Magrath Elementary School in  2001.
     
  • Lions Park: In conjunction  with the Town of Magrath, we built a children's playground in the west end of town, with large swings, carousel, teeter-totters, etc. The large 'Lions Playground' sign was added in 1999 and 10 trees were planted along the west edge of the park in 2000. Lion Lawrence Papworth spearheaded the rebuilding of the fence along south edge of park in 2001.
     
  • High School Achievement Awards:  To promote and reward scholastic and citizenship achievement, we donate money to the local high school to fund their annual Magrath High School Achievement Awards.
     
  • Lions Quest: We are proud sponsors of the Lions Quest (see www.lions-quest.ca) 'Personal and Social Skills Development' program in the Magrath Elementary School, paying for initial teacher training and supplies.
     
  • Magrath Marching Band: The world famous Magrath Junior/High School Marching Band (formerly the Magrath/Cardston Marching Band) has been the pride of Magrath for years. Several requests for funding have been met by the Magrath Lions Clubs over the years to assist in travel expenses and equipment.
     
  • Minor Sports: We have provided funds to several local minor sports organizations: hockey, soccer, etc in response to various requests for assistance, including purchase of little league baseball uniforms, awards ceremonies, travel to championship tournaments.
     
  • Public Skating Dressing Rooms: The Lions Club rebuilt the dressing room building for the old skating rink and helped fund and operate the rink - flooding, etc. The current site sports the Town of Magrath tennis courts.
     
  • C.N.I.B. Canvassing: Today the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (C.N.I.B.) sends out requests for donations through the mail. Prior to that, canvassing was done in Magrath by the Magrath Lions Club on their behalf for which we collected around $1000/year.
     
  • Senior Citizens Lodge: Donated Ice Making machine to the Diamond Willow Terrace senior citizens lodge.
     
  • Hospital Equipment: We have donated several thousand dollars to fund specialized equipment in Magrath and Lethbridge, including $1000 towards a Fundascopic Camera to assist during eye surgery in Lethbridge, $2000 toward a vital signs monitor in the Magrath Hospital, as well as donations towards purchase of an MRI machine for our region.
     
  • Highway Signs: The Magrath Lions Club instigated the acquisition of the Town of Magrath signs at the north and south entrance to town, as well as the signs listing all local churches meeting in town.
     
  • Eyeglass Recycling: As in all Lions Clubs, we collect eyeglasses for redistribution to needy adults and children around the world. We maintain a collection box in the front entrance of the local grocery store (Magrath Trading Company).
     
  • Newspaper Recycling: We ran a newspaper recycling bin for several years, collecting items in our Lions Club Recycling Trailer and hauling the collected paper into Lethbridge in borrowed trucks. Today, paper, glass, cardboard and metal is collected in the Town of Magrath recycling trailer located at the town lot.
     
  • Rodeo Grounds: In 1989 we donated $2200 to help build bleachers at the Magrath Rodeo Grounds located just south of town.
     
  • Public Library: In 1997, in addition to donated labor for preparation and installation, we donated $1700 for trees and underground sprinkler system at the new Magrath Public Library.
     
  • Library Books: Donated several large print books to the local public library. In 2001 we donated additional funds to assist in purchase of books for the library.
