Magrath Lions Clubs Friendship Night 2001

Following the encouragement of International President Dr. Jean Behar, we will be sponsoring a "Lions Clubs Friendship Night" in Magrath, Alberta during the third week of April 2001 (we held our event on April 20, 2001 at the Magrath Seniors Center). This will be (was) an opportunity us to share with the members of our community -- who Lions are, what Lions think and what Lions do.

Friendship Night 2001 Resources:

  • Magrath Lions Club Fact Sheet 2001 PDF Brochure

  • Online demo of this website -- burned onto a CD.

  • Self-running Friendship Night 2001 Show and Go Presentation. Win32 executable. 20 MB continuous 7 minute loops.

  • Selected Lions Clubs International PDF Brochures downloaded to CD.

  • Lions Clubs International FAQ Frequently Asked Questions page downloaded to CD.

  • Video: Down the Street and Around the World (1997) will be presented at one of the informational stations.

Highlights:
  • Lion John Witherspoon and his wife Lion Gail, along with two of their 'prospective lion' guests from Lethbridge visited. Lion John presented information on the STARS air ambulance service, which is supported to a large degree by the Lions MD37, and on the related HPS Human Patient Simulator project. Interestingly enough, one of our guests happened to be able to have his 13 year old son describe first hand experience using STARS air ambulance to get to Calgary Children's Hospital from Cardston after an accident with a baling machine 5 years ago (Father: Clay Boyes of Magrath, AB). Come to think of it, my own daughter was air lifted on the STARS airplane 2 years ago from Cardston to Calgary as well -- luckily she recovered fully, but, humm.
  • Guest Mike Cahoon entertained us with his amazing story/song voice impressions and guitar plucking. Ask us about the 'pumkin kickin at the cow pasture' story and the tune to 'a boa contrictor is chewing on my ___' ..
  • Three information stations displaying: 1) Video 'Down the Street ..',  2) This website on CD, and 3) a looping 'powerpoint' presentation ..
  • Want a copy? If you are consumed with curiosity, just email your request to us at maglion@ssdirect.com and we will consider getting a copy of above resources on CD to you. You will need a fairly powerful PC to run the program (CD, Soundcard, Win9x). The self running presentation program is 20+MB in size, but it all fits nicely on a burned CD.

We intend on recycling the resource materials prepared for this event by using them again in July 2001 during the Town of Magrath celebrations.
