Standard Operating Protocols Manual

Town Structural Fires

 prev  top  next

  1. Two trucks (P2 & P3) and Rescue Van (R1) proceed to the fire. Upon arrival confirm by radio to 801 base:
    • Location of fire.
    • Type of fire.
    • Action being taken.
    • Any back up that is required.
  2. Trucks are on a forward lay and should therefore make connection at the closest hydrant, and proceed to the fire. Location of that hydrant could be requested from 801.
  3. A fully involved structure may require 2 1/2" lines to get the proper amount of water on the fire. Water pressure of 100 is the minimum requirement for structural fires.
  4. Protect adjacent buildings by water curtain, radio for backup from another services, particularly if other structures are close by or threatened. This will be the choice of the scene incident commander.
  5. Pumpers are to be parked close enough to fight fire effectively, but not be in danger from smoke or the fire.
  6. R1 is to be placed so that it is out of the way of the firefighting effort but still close enough to distribute equipment as required.
  7. Both extension and roof ladders will be needed to be advanced to the structure.

TRUCK ACTIONS:

  1. P3 to closest hydrant, makes connections and proceeds to the fire.
  2. P2 to next closest or to same hydrant, makes connections and proceeds to the fire.
  3. Note: There should now be 2 21/2" lines coming from the hydrant to the fire scene and connected to one truck. A single 2 1/2" line will then feed into the second truck (if possible), along with lines to the structure (Assuming only closest hydrant provides enough water to properly fight the fire and that there is enough hose to do the job).
